My Go To Iced Coffee Recipe

It’s no secret that I absolutely LOVE everything to do with coffee. Please don’t think of me as a coffee snob though. I won’t judge you by the kind of beans you use, or whether those are organic, fair-trade, locally owned and roasted, etc. I prefer to think of myself as a “serious” coffee drinker. That means I drink coffee every day (usually more than one cup), and I am constantly trying to learn new ways to make and share it with my people. 


I like to switch up the temperature of my coffee depending on the weather. During the summer months, I am constantly craving iced coffee, especially in the sweltering Louisville weather.

My go-to iced coffee recipe is an iced Americano with half and half. Now before you start getting all intimidated, thinking that this is some super fancy drink you need a million ingredients for, do not fear! This is a super simple, easy drink with just 4 ingredients. Plus, making this drink at home will not cost you an arm and a leg.

Don’t get me wrong. I love going to coffee shops, but I also love saving money while getting my daily coffee fix. 🙂 

I’m pretty sure that when James wrote “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights,” that he was not referring to iced coffee. On the other hand though, coffee is definitely a “good and perfect gift” from above. I hope you already share this sentiment. If not, hopefully this homemade iced americano will change your mind! 


Homemade Iced Americano


1-2 shots of espresso (if you don’t have an espresso maker, use really, really strong coffee. I make espresso every morning with my trusty Pezzetti stovetop espresso maker that my dear husband bought for me. I use Cafe Bustelo espresso, and I love it. It’s the cheapest espresso in the coffee aisle, but it tastes amazing! For this recipe I use leftover espresso which is usually cold from the fridge.)

1/2 -2/3 cups water

splash or two of half and half (feel free to sub milk, almond milk, or coconut milk with this. I have tried almond milk with this and I love it). 

1-2 tsp sweetener of your choice (I use Pyure  brand Stevia to sweeten mine). 

lots of ice



Put all ingredients in a mason jar, then put the lid on.

Shake vigorously.

Add more ice, a straw, and enjoy! Obviously, you don’t have to drink this out of a mason jar, but I think it makes it more cute and fun. 🙂
