Friday Favorites 4.21.17

Happy Friday, dear friends! I hope y’all had a lovely week, and that you have and even lovelier weekend. This week became somewhat of a “catch-up” week for us, since we just came off two busy weekends with my brother’s wedding and Easter weekend. We really needed a few slower days to get back into the routines of work, school (for Nate), and running errands and such, so I’m grateful this week ended up like it did.

On to the favorites!

N. D. Wilson’s latest book, Outlaws of Time: The Song of Glory and Ghost. It’s the sequel to Outlaws of Time, another amazing work by Wilson. After reading (and loving) his other works, I must admit I didn’t love Sam Miracle and his story all that much at first because it seemed so different. The snake arms, the wild west, Indians, and time travel didn’t seem to mesh well, but then I kept reading. I’ve gotta hand it to Wilson, because he always knows how to spin amazing, imaginative, epic tales that may start out on a weird foot but end up moving you to tears, and Outlaws of Time is so no exception. I pre-ordered Song of Glory and Ghost so that I could read it right away and I’ve loved delving into it this week. It’s a welcome, fun distraction from this hard time. I can’t wait to finish it and let y’all know what I think. As I’ve told you before (and I’ll probably mention again😉), you need to read N.D. Wilson! He is my favorite modern-day author, and his work never disappoints.

My new haircut. Sometimes you just need to change things up a bit, you know? Well, this was definitely true for me with my hair! I felt like it was weighing my down and always such a bother to tame/style. So I got about 4 inches chopped off, and I feel like a new woman. My hair feels so much lighter and happier, and it’s way easier to style. I love this length because I can still throw it up in a messy bun or ponytail, but it’s easy to wear down as well.

This song by Ellie Holcomb. Y’all know how much I love Ellie and her newest album, but this is my all time favorite song by her. I’ve been listening to it a lot the last couple of days, as it’s been hard to have yet another month of disappointment in our infertility journey. I love how this song makes me focus on the truth that God is in control of this hard time, that it’s all part of His plan, and that He is walking this road alongside us.

Last but not least, I loved working with my plants this week, cutting off different segments and “multiplying” them to make more little plant babies. I love plants, and the jade plant my sister gave me years ago before she moved to Canada has just kept growing and growing (thanks again, Steph and Josh!).  I haven’t had a lot of success with keeping plants alive, but my succulents (the jade plant, and another circular looking one that I have no idea what kind it is) have always been there for me. Probably because they’re very forgiving if you forget to water them. I also got a new house plant (not sure exactly what kind it is) from Home Depot, and I hung it in our dining room. I’m so happy with how it looks, and I hope to grow our plant collection further. Plants make me feel so happy, and they’re a great way to clean the air and add a lovely natural touch to any decor.
