I love this time of year and all the festive joy it holds. One of my favorite things about this time of year is Advent.
This year I really wanted to do Advent readings as a family with Nate, but time got away from me and I never got around to finding a reading plan. Then we hung out with Nate’s brother and sister in law who live in town and Tessa’s DIY Advent calendar inspired me. She had made 25 beautiful cards with verses on one side and numbers on the other, all hanging from twine with cute little wooden pegs. Each day they would turn another over, displaying the verse for that day. I absolutely loved her idea, and Nate did too, so when I got home I got busy making one of my own.
It’s certainly nothing fancy, but it’s functional and cute, and will be fun to use for our family through the years. The awesome thing is I found free printable advent verses via Pinterest (a big THANK YOU to whoever you are that made the printable calendar and let me have it for free. Bless you), so all I had to do was print the verses out, cut, and paste them onto some fun paper. I already had the the twine and some old hooks from Ikea, so this whole project only cost about $1.99 (which was the price of the red card stock).
Nate and I have enjoyed reading the Advent verses each evening together. It’s a great way to remember the true reason for Christmas and get our hearts and minds focused on the truth of the Gospel.
How do you celebrate the Advent season? I’d love to hear about it! Can’t believe we’re already almost halfway to Christmas!
