So ever since October, I have had a new job (or a side hustle, really). My dream job is being a stay at home wife and mom, and I’m so blessed to be able to do that! My other job is the next best thing though! I work for VIPKID as an online ESL teacher to students in China.
Last Fall I started looking for ways to add a little more money to our income, as well as use my teaching degree. I really wanted to contribute to our income and work from home, but I hated the thought of selling anything (I’m glad for those who can sell products online and love it, but that’s not my personality at all!). So when my friend Hannah told me about VIPKID and that I didn’t have to sell anything, I thought it sounded too good to be true. 😉
So what is VIPKID?
VIPKID is a Chinese based company that hires native English speakers to teach ESL to kids in China via the internet.
How does it work?
Each lesson is one-on-one with a child aged 5-12 for 25 minutes. It’s a video call kind of like Skype, but there is also an interactive powerpoint that the student and teacher can write/click on.
Why do I love it so much?
I have always loved working with and teaching kids, but the worst parts of teaching for me were lesson planning and classroom management. I dreaded coming up with lesson plans all the time, and managing a whole classroom full of students felt like herding cats most days. With VIPKID, I get one student at a time so I can really focus on and connect with him or her. VIPKID also gives you the lesson materials for each class, so there is very little prep work and I don’t have to reinvent the wheel as it were. Besides those, I love VIPKID because I can work from home and choose my schedule, so I don’t feel like I’m sacrificing time with Glory since I teach when she is sleeping and Nate is home so he can get her if she wakes up.
I’m really thankful the Lord led me to VIPKID and provided this sweet new, fun job for me. It really is ideal for us in this season and I’m so thankful it worked out. If you have any questions about VIPKID, feel free to contact me! I also have an Instagram account where I share more of my teaching adventures, so feel free to check that out and follow me there.
Hope you’re having an amazing Friday!
