Looking back over my walk with the Lord, the point when I really started growing as a Christian was when I began consistently reading my Bible. The Lord used His Word to teach me more about Himself, and grow my affections for His things. I wasn’t perfect at it, and most days I didn’t journal or write deep thoughts about the passages. I would just read a few chapters, pray, and then begin my day. I still remember sitting out on the balcony in the sunshine of Tobago (a Caribbean island where we lived at the time), where I had some of the sweetest moments with the Lord.
Now, I say all that not to brag, but to point out that reading the Bible changed my life.
It wasn’t anything amazing that I was coming up with or doing for God.
He was using His powerful Word to change my heart and mind and make me more like Jesus.
That’s why I am so passionate about the Bible Reading Challenge, run by the ladies of Christ Church. I have made 2 videos detailing this plan, and I would like to invite all my blog readers to read with me too.
This plan can be accessed from your smartphone, you only read 4-6 chapters a day, and you have catch up days and rest days (Sunday).
This plan is all about viewing the Word as a feast that all Christians should be eating. We shouldn’t be relying on the crumbs from others’ study of the word (while devotionals are great, we need to be in the Word ourselves, not just take others’ words for it).
I’ll be honest that most days I am tired and I don’t get some amazing application from the chapters. But it’s not about me. It’s not about what I see in the text, it’s about God and His glory, and His Spirit working through those precious words.
If you’d like to read with me, we are starting on September 9th. If you see this after that date, just jump in wherever we are! That’s exactly what I did the first time I heard about this plan in February.
You can refer to these videos for more info.
Thanks for reading/watching! Please leave a comment or message me on Instagram if you’d like to read the Bible with me. I look forward to hearing from you!
